The important and visible element of any solar power system are the solar modules.  This is where the initial process of converting the sun’s heat to usable energy begins.  The two main types of photovoltaic cells are Monocrystalline and Polycrystalline.  Another recent addition to the family of modules is the Thin Film Module.  Monocrystalline and Polycrystalline panels can be easily distinguished by their color.  Monocrystalline Panels are close to black in color and Polycrystalline Panels are blue in color.  While monocrystalline cells have the highest efficiency, they are also more costly than polycrystalling cells.
